About the Experience

The backwaters of Kerela are a magnanimous network of more than 900 Kms of waterways renowned for the serene, subtle, amazing backdrops surrounded by lush green fields populated with towering coconut trees. The backwaters are filled with some of the unique and beautiful aquatic wildlife like crabs, mudskippers and water birds such as terns, kingfishers, darters and cormorants.
To experience backwaters and life on the banks of backwaters, we strongly recommend to stay for atleast one overnight on Houseboat which are also known as Kettuvallam or “boat with knots – as it has coir ropes tied in knots which hold the entire structure of the boat together”. Houseboats though look traditional has all modern facilities like air conditioned bed room, wc, hot and cold water shower and freshly cooked food.

Location : We recommend backwaters around Alleppey which is located in state of Kerala.

Accessibility

Closest airport to Alleppey is in Cochin which is just 2 hours drive. It is well connected by road to Periyar, Munnar and Kovalam. Kerala has international airport which makes it well connected globally and by regular flights from within India.
Not to miss : While staying in houseboat, we recommend you to take small canoe boats to explore the backwaters area more closely. Big houseboats normally can not go inside the narrow canals which can be experienced using small boats.
