Hospet in literal meaning is “New City “ acts as gateway to the World Heritage site of Hampi, the city acts as base point enroute to Hampi. World Heritage site Hampi is the biggest and quite possibly the only site containing magnificent ruins of medieval giant empire of Vijayanagara. The city is developed upon masses of giant boulders over miles of mountainous terrain. Travellers out here are captivated by the sharply sculptured art of the ruins and huge fields of parrot-green palm groves, banana plantations and paddy fields. The World Heritage Site can be travelled in a day or two and the other renowned attractions like the traditional Hampi Bazaar and the majestic Virupaksha Temple in a day or so.
