About the tour

This tour carries the South Indian Culture in the most epitome manner, the eye-catching handscripted dravida style magnificent temples of Tamil Nadu where you see the culture, daily practices and faith of people in themselves and their Almighty. The journey passes through the region of Chettinad, well known for its Chettinadu cuisine and its 19th-century mansions with wide courtyards and spacious rooms. The construction materials of these houses consisting of decorative items and furnishings were mostly imported from East Asian countries and Europe. In addition the tour revolves around the Kerala’s pleasing and peaceful sights like the Tea gardens of Munnar and Backwatersgiving it the tag of“Venice of East”.

TOUR SCHEDULE

  • Day 1 : Arrive Chennai.
    Arrive Chennai. Meet staff of Aura Voyages at airport. Transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 2 : Chennai – Mahabalipuram (drive – 1hour 30 minutes)
    Morning visit Chennai with visit to Bronze Gallery in state museum (closed on Friday), San Thom Church and walk through Marina beach.
    Afternoon drive to Mahabalipuram.
    Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 3 : Mahabalipuram – Pondicherry (drive – 3hour)
    Morning visit Mahabalipuram with visit to Shore temple, Five Rathas and Arjuna’s penance.
    Drive to Pondicherry which used to be under French.
    Afternoon visit Aurobindo Ashram and walk through lanes which still have names in French and some beautiful buildings. Later walk along the sea side.
    Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 4 : Pondicherry – Chidambram – Tanjore (drive – 5hours)
    Morning drive to Chidambram which is famous for Nataraja temple. Rest of the day free at hotel.
    Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 5 : Tanjore – Chettinad (drive – 3 hours)
    Morning visit Brihadeshwara temple and drive to Chettinad famous for beautiful houses built by businessmen but now most of them are vacant.
    Chettinad is famous for home architecture and cuisine.
    Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 6 : Chettinad – Madurai (drive – 3 hours)
    Morning drive to Madurai and visit Meenakashi temple and Palace.
    In the evening attend temple ceremony at Meenakashi temple.
    Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 7 : Madurai – Munnar (drive – 5 hours)
    Morning drive to Munnar famous for tea garden.
    Afternoon free to relax and walk through tea gardens.
    Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 8 : Munnar – Backwaters (drive – 5 hours)
    Morning drive to Backwaters of Kerala and board houseboat (known as Kettuvallams).
    Cruise on back waters.
    Overnight on Houseboat.
  • Day 9 : Houseboat – Cochin (drive – 2 hours)
    Morning disembark at Alleppy and drive to Cochin.
    Arrive Cochin and visit Mattencherry Island which is famous for Dutch Palace (closed on Friday) and Jewish Synagogue (closed on Friday and Saturday).
    Afternoon walk through Fort Cochin and you will visit St Francis church was will visit from outside some beautiful buildings.
    In the evening attend Kathakali dance performance in regular theatre.
    Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 10 : Cochin – fly to next destination.
    Transfer to airport to connect flight to next destination.

Possible extension :

You can extend this tour to Karnataka to visit Mysore – Hassan – Bangalore / beach extension to Kovalam or Goa ….
